Brand New Quilted Winter Coat Anyone?

I bet there are thousands, if not millions of people out there who just answered yes to the title. The quilted jacket is fast becoming the must have for the autumn winter seasons with their fashion versatility seen by many men as the real reason to own one. They can be worn with most outfits and fashions, and can be layered up with chunky knitwear, hooded jumpers and sweatshirts or simply worn over a polo shirt, shirt or t shirt depending on the weather and occasion. Because of the move towards the ‘outdoor’ look within fashion at the moment the quilted jacket is available in a few guises, and springs from the British countryside gent and would be found with wellies, a flat cap and chinos.

With such importance in fashion at the moment surrounding the quilted coat, most fashion brands have released their take on the jacket for autumn winter 2011 with no fewer than twenty brands (and more due soon) offering a quilted coat. British brand Lavenham coats lead the way with the jackets, and have been specialising in the design for the outdoor world for the last forty plus years. With hooded versions, and collared versions in a number of colours this is the first place to start if you want an outdoor brand. After that you can look at the British brands Hackett, Ted Baker, Henri Lloyd and Belstaff who all offer a very varied range of corduroy trims, neck straps, pouch pockets and zip or button fronts. Alongside this you have new brands One True Saxon and Canterbury offering basic designs while Voi, Henleys, Gio Goi and Bench offer a jacket for the teenagers and younger lads. As always there is a little bit of something for everyone on the Mainline Menswear website.

What to wear with the quilted coat? That’s a question that’s fairly easy to answer, as its pretty much anything. This seasons trend setters will pair a khaki or black quilted coat with beige chinos and the brown boots or hiking boots that are appearing everywhere. Others will match them with jeans ranging from dark indigo to light blue and trainers and a few will experiment with jogging bottoms and hi tops which from a fashion point of view is definitely one for the kids. Underneath you can, as I’ve said, wear a single item with polo shirts and checked shirts again a fashion winner, while layering will see you add warmth to the coat and outfit, offering hooded zip tops, jumpers and knitwear over the same polo shirt or shirt. Add to this a scarf, beanie hat or flat cap and an amazing bag from any of the brands offering accessories and you’ll build a quality outdoor outfit for autumn winter 2011, that will still be in fashion for a couple of autumns, winters and springs to come yet!
