As the focus is starting to turn slightly from the Winter Sale towards the brand new collections on Mainline Menswear I thought I’d pick out one of the brands that has proven to be a popular choice time and time again with men of all ages around the UK. My choice – Original Penguin – is a personal favourite of mine, and I have enjoyed the quality of their heritage slim fit polo shirts over the years, enjoying their vivid colours and classic look. After becoming involved with Mainline Menswear I was astonished to find out how many of the polo shirts with the piping (later confirmed as the Earl polo shirt) had been sold over the years, and how popular they are at present despite the fashion world seeing a shift from polo shirts towards crew and v neck t shirts. With so many colours and designs of these amazing polo’s available over the years they had to be included in my top 5 for spring summer 2013, but what else made the cut?
My top 5 Original Penguin items for spring and summer are:
Some of the above may be obvious, others may seem a little strange, so I’ll briefly explain my choices! The Original Penguin Earl polo shirt is a must have and will look as good today as it will in ten years’ time, plus the range of colours online give you some great choices. The Oxfords Straight Up shirt is a nice clean long sleeve shirt and should be considered if you’re dressing up a little, or want a great shirt for a smart casual look. The fit mixed with the button down collar make it a must have. I had to throw a nice casual sweat in, so the Sam hooded jumper got my vote as you’ll see tons of guys wearing the zip tops in a few different ways on chilly days in the spring. The classic Ratner is just purely a classic. This great windbreaker has been around for years, and even though it’s a basic design is much sought after as the colour of the trim is constantly changing. Finally the Chelsea Floral shirt might seem a little out there, but floral prints are huge this year. Not as loud as a Hawaiian shirt may appear, but a subtle print in a light summery colour will be matched with chinos or shorts for that smart casual colourful summer look.
So there you have it, if any of these five have caught your eye then maybe Original Penguin at Mainline Menswear is for you?
